Refrigerant Leak
The refrigerant is necessary for the air conditioner to run properly and cool the home properly. The refrigerant is there to remove the hot air from the house and blows the cool air all over the house. The refrigerant travels through the copper coils and when these copper coils wear down, they cause cracks. The refrigerant travelling through these coils leak out through these cracks. So this is why you can smell a sweet chloroform type smell when you turn the AC ON.
New Ductwork
Sometimes when you install a new ductwork system, then the glue from this new ductwork system could be the source of the chemical smell in the house. This is not a serious condition but this can be annoying sometimes. The smell could go away on its own and you don’t have to do anything substantial about it.
